Consulting and Mentoring
FTT is a UK-based taining and consultancy company offering instructor-led training across a broad range of information technology and software engineering subjects.
As well as delivering of bespoke technical training courses, in response to customer and company inquiries we have been asked to deliver focused consultancy and mentoring. This has ranged from students studying A Level, Undergraduate or Postgraduate courses who have run into difficulties with projects or assignments who need urgent and intensive help. Our policy is not to "provide finished projects and assignments" but rather to help overcome difficulties and provide illustrative report writing techniques and can provide a "English report correction" service as well. We also provide help with exam preparation and revision including "concept mapping" workshops as a means for structuring and retaining facts for "fact recall heavy" examinations.
Our consultancy work in the main is concerned with "proof of concept" systems and software development backed up with training and knowledge transfer, or with "rescue mission" assignments. A, not untypical, rescue mission scenario that we handled recently was the case of a company developing safety critical "shutdown" devices for use in high voltage transformer stations. The consultant developing their software was "out of his depth", not the most appropriate compiler for the job at hand, and deadlines for demonstration of the prototype were fast approaching. The solution we adopted was to provide a blend of training, system design consultancy and a software template/prototype that they could then further develop internally. Typical proof of concept consultancy involves developing software drivers and display software for specialised sensors and monitoring systems.
Consultancy and mentoring we have delivered in the last year or so have included
- Intensive upskilling in Python, SQL , Matplotlib, Numpy and Python for PostgreSQL for data analysis and visualisation
- Advanced C++ STL and Boost Library clarification for numerical analysis and OpenFoam project work
- Getting up to speed with Python and the RaspberryPi for A Level Computing and FE College Vocational Lecturing
- Embedded ethernet, TCP/IP programming for sACN and Art-Net product development
- Arduino , its programming, and its uses in prototyping control systems for Foundation Year engineering students and lecturing staff

- Implementing and installing Windows DLL libraries for interacting with embedded USB target boards
- Implementing and installing Windows DLL libraries for interacting with embedded USB target boards
- Advanced C++ and STL programming tutoring and revision of numerical analysis algorithms in C++ for a student having great difficulties with a (badly formulated and supported) Master's level numerical analysis project
The costs for consultancy and mentoring services are £300 plus VAT for a half-day session, and £500 plus VAT for a full day session
